Ryan is a director at the firm and a member of its litigation and trial team.  He also sits on the firm’s summer associate hiring committee.  Ryan is rated AV Preeminent® by Martindale-Hubbell, and was named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers Magazine.

Ryan focuses his practice primarily in the areas of complex commercial and civil litigation, and business litigation.  His typical engagements arise in corporate disputes; shareholder, member and partnership disputes; contract disputes; employment disputes with an emphasis on non-compete, non-solicitation, and non-disclosure litigation; consumer protection litigation (including class actions); highly varied banking disputes; commercial landlord/tenant disputes; commercial foreclosures; and defamation.  He also regularly counsels clients on the legal ramifications stemming from day-to-day business matters.

Ryan has substantial courtroom experience, and is regularly retained on an emergency basis to pursue or defend against requests for injunctive relief in both state and federal court.  He routinely appears in state and federal courts throughout the country on a pro hac vice admission on behalf of his clients, and is also retained by attorneys in other states to serve as local counsel and provide strategic advice on Florida civil procedure and judicial tendencies. Representation of luxury real estate auction company in the defense of a motion to enforce a settlement agreement brought by a competitor who wrongfully attempted to require Ryan’s client to perform additional tasks not covered under the express terms of the agreement.  The trial court ruled against Ryan’s client and granted the competitor’s motion.  Ryan appealed the order on behalf of his client to Florida’s Third District Court of Appeal, obtained a reversal of the trial court’s order in its entirety, and obtained an additional order from the appellate court awarding Ryan’s client its attorney fees and costs.

Representation of two Middle Eastern companies in the pursuit of various fraud and fiduciary duty claims against a local real estate developer over a failed hotel project on Ft. Lauderdale Beach.  Ryan served as second chair trial counsel during a two and a half week long jury trial in federal court (Southern District of Florida), where he handled numerous witnesses and argued the majority of the legal and evidentiary issues that arose during the trial.  A verdict was secured in favor of Ryan’s clients on numerous of the claims set forth in the complaint.

Representation of national eyeglass chain in the defense of a lawsuit brought by its landlord over the eyeglass chain’s construction of a façade on the exterior portion of the leased premises.  Following two years of litigation, the lawsuit proceeded to a two day trial in Pensacola, Florida where Ryan obtained a verdict for the defense on all counts with an award of prevailing party attorney’s fees.

Representation of national broker dealer in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida in the pursuit of emergency injunctive relief against a former employee and business competitor for misappropriation of trade secrets and violations of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, 18 U.S.C. § 1030.  An injunction was secured from the court within days of filing the complaint, and the lawsuit settled shortly thereafter on confidential terms.

Representation of a national healthcare company based out of South Florida in the pursuit of injunctive relief against a former employee for numerous breaches of a non-compete and non-solicitation agreement.  A preliminary injunction was entered by the court in favor of Ryan’s client following an eight hour evidentiary hearing spanning three days, and the lawsuit settled shortly thereafter.

Representation of international car auction company in the defense of a lawsuit brought by a prominent South Florida automobile dealership, where the automobile dealership had successfully obtained a six figure default final judgment against Ryan’s client.  Following an evidentiary hearing, the court granted Ryan’s motion and vacated the judgment.

Representations of multiple firm clients in lawsuits outside the state of Florida, and successfully obtain orders dismissing those lawsuits for lack of personal jurisdiction.

Ryan holds a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center, where he served as the Managing Editor of the American Criminal Law Review.  While in law school, Ryan interned for the Honorable Donald M. Middlebrooks of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.  For his undergraduate studies, Ryan attended the University of Florida and received a degree in finance.  He was designated a Warrington Finance Scholar.  Immediately following law school, Ryan worked as an attorney for Homer Bonner Jacobs, PA in Miami before joining Tripp Scott.

Ryan presently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Ft. Lauderdale Historical Society. He also participates in the Georgetown Law Network, University of Florida, and St. Thomas Aquinas High School alumni associations.  He is a native of Ft. Lauderdale.
